In 2026, the United States turns 250 years old — the Semiquincentennial — and at our BeeHive Homes assisted living communities across New Mexico, we get to mark a quarter of a millennium of American history surrounded by the very people who have lived so much of it. For families across the Land of Enchantment, it’s a season of parades, porch gatherings, and quiet gratitude.

No one alive has seen all 250 years, of course. But the residents of our New Mexico homes have personally witnessed the most astonishing stretch of change in the nation’s story. Many grew up when the radio was the heartbeat of the living room and the telephone was shared with neighbors down a dirt road. They remember the night a man first walked on the moon. Today, they video-call their great-grandchildren from a sunny chair by the window.
Think about that span: from party lines to smartphones, from black-and-white newsreels to streaming, from prop planes to space stations. Our residents didn’t read about that transformation — they lived it, adapted to it, and raised families through every bit of it. When they tell those stories, they tell them better than any history book ever could. Spend an afternoon listening, and 250 years stops being a number and becomes a life you can almost reach out and touch.
Honoring the Veterans Among Us
Walk through any BeeHive Homes community in New Mexico and you’ll meet people who served this country. Some wore the uniform in wartime, others through the long, quiet years of standing ready. They came home and built lives — raised children, ran businesses, taught school, kept faith, and strengthened the towns they settled in. Others served on the home front, holding families and communities together so the country could keep moving forward.
This Independence Day, we say what can’t be said often enough: thank you. The freedom we celebrate on the Fourth was carried, in part, by the men and women who now call our homes their own.
