A story built on family, comfort, and the simple belief that aging should still feel like home
When people walk into BeeHive Homes of New Mexico, they often say the same thing: “This feels like home.”
That reaction isn’t an accident. It comes from a story that began long before our homes arrived in New Mexico—back in 1987, with a grandson who simply wanted the best for his grandmother.
A Legacy Built from Love
BeeHive Homes started when Twayne Walker built the very first BeeHive Assisted Living home in Meridian, Idaho. At the time, quality senior care options were limited. Facilities felt cold, crowded, or out of reach for many families. Twayne wanted something better for his grandmother—a clean, comfortable, cozy place where she could live with dignity, surrounded by people who cared.
So he built it.
Residents were so drawn to the idea that they began asking about moving in before the home was even finished. That was the moment the purpose of BeeHive Homes became clear:
People were searching for a place that truly felt like home.
Before long, Dennis Toland saw that same need and partnered with Twayne to help expand this warm, small-home model into what we know today—hundreds of homes across the country, all built with the same heart.
A Model Designed to Feel Like Home
BeeHive Homes didn’t follow the traditional path of senior living. Instead of big buildings with long hallways and busy dining rooms, the BeeHive model was created around something simple and powerful:
Small homes. Familiar spaces. Personalized care. Real comfort.
Each home looks and feels like a residential house, complete with cozy living rooms, warm kitchens, and inviting spaces where conversation comes naturally. Families feel at ease the moment they visit. Residents settle in quickly because the environment is calm, warm, and easy to navigate.
This approach still guides every BeeHive Home in New Mexico today.
A New Mexico Home Rooted in Tradition and Togetherness
As we move through this holiday season, the heart of the BeeHive story shows up in little moments all around us:
residents helping with holiday prep
music that brings back warm memories
quiet conversations in cozy corners
families visiting and feeling instantly welcome
And of course, we’re keeping up with the traditions of the season—here and across the country. Even the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree went up this week, reminding us how deeply the world cherishes the glow of holiday light and the comfort of gathering together.
Inside our homes, those same feelings come alive in the simplest ways: a decorated tree in the living room, a shared dessert after dinner, or a resident telling a favorite childhood holiday story.

The Purpose That Still Guides Us
BeeHive Homes was built on one belief:
Where you live as you age should feel just like home.
That purpose has never changed.
It guides our caregivers.
It shapes our daily routines.
It welcomes every family that walks through our doors.
And here in New Mexico, it continues to grow—one warm smile, one shared meal, and one heartfelt moment at a time.
